Diary of An Indian Princess

4th April 2008-

Our flight on tiger airways takes off at 9.15pm. It's at the budget terminal which is a one-storeyed nondescript building which none of us have ever steppd into before..they have a strict baggage weight limit that we have all seem to have exceeded and we are all panicking cos every extra kg is 20 bucks! We're pretty late to check in too but we decide to argue with the counter staff and finally manage to check in as a group and so our collective weights were unbder the limit.

We break for dinner where Harti and I get stalked by some Northie worker. My mum is freaking out. Fortunately, he isn't flying and is left at the glass doors waving bye frantically. D's nowhere to be found cos he has a secret rendezvous with his Toyota and Joey and I are too curious and walk the length of the airport to try and spot her. We think we've figured out which one she is amongst the group..and she IS rather pretty! :p

The flight was rather squeezy and our group made up the only non-Indians on the flight. You could totally tell that you were on a budget flight. We get the very last row, right beside the toilets, where the seats can't recline and have very hard backs. We decide that the airport staff must really hate us. Thankfully, the toilet doesn't stink, but the passengers seem to have very irritable bladders and keep going up and down. Turbulence was bad at times, and I must admit that I was fearful a number of times at the thought of having decided to fly budget.. We get really bored after an hour of playing bridge and go to sleep even though it's just 10pm.. We are missing inflight entertainment. :(

We touch down at Chennai airport at 10.45pm Indian time. Got a prepaid taxi to the YWCA hostel. One porter tell another that we're all going to be staying there and the other remarks 'ok la, tonight there's going to be a party in YWCA!'Haha. It's a fun ride for the rest, who are getting introduced to the lane-less, traffic light-less Indian system.

The YWCA looks very pretty on the outside, set amidst a garden, and far exceeds our expectations. The rooms are spartan but clean. And most importantly, we have aircon..we're starting to perspire even though the temperature's only 29 degrees!
