Today, we were meant to take a day trip to Macon, in the Beaujolais wine country (recommended by Let's Go). But we found alternative itineries from the tourist office, and to cut costs, we decided to cycle around the Lyonnais Hills (which did look pretty tempting) instead. This turned out to be a pretty bad decision though.
Firstly, we spent more than an hour looking for a place to rent bikes..we went in circles and we finally found a place, it had one short of the number we required! And so we went off searching again.
Then, after cycling uphill for half an hour (*pant*), we stopped at the cheapest and most delicious cafe ever!! ('cos it was in a school area) We had yummy yummy kebabs (but not as yummy as the yummiest ever in that Vienna marketplace) and we got huge bottles of soda (oh, so refreshing in that scorching heat!) at 0.75 euros! Woah. Then, we cycled around for another hour..not even reaching the first stop on our itinery- Saint-Foy-les-Lyon, the Beaunant bridge (oh man..the number of people I had to asked directions to this place..) so we decided to turn back and head back to the hotel.. we figured that the whole route was probably meant to be a driving one.. lesson learnt: always follow your guidebook like the holy bible.
In the evening..(after Neela's '5 minute' bath that took more like 25 min!!! :p ) we headed down to Parc de la Tete d'Or (that derives its name from a golden head of Jesus that lies buried somewhere in its grounds). There was like a mini zoo and greehouses in it..fed a little deer with grass..met frogs that made weird weird noises when they bubble up, and wandered through more rose bushes. We decided there were different sections to the park..the excercise section, where people were either playing football, trying unsuccessfully to do handstands (which Sirui proudly said he could do, but never showed us. hmph.) or practising cappoiera- some Brazillian martial art dance). Then there was the picnicking section...which we went to join...and the lying down section...right beside where we were sitting..and we were keenly watching a couple who were practically on top of each other (erm, reading a book..). *grinz* Ooh, all these lovey dovey people lost in their own world.
And that was how our sttay in Lyon drew to an end..That's Lyon for you- cosmopolitian at its finest!
(P.S. I don't know why but Lyon has been listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site since 5 December 1998.)
